Interested in Graduate Research?
Please learn more about the Biochemistry Department's graduate program and/or the Translational Biosciences graduate program. These programs do not operate on "direct admissions." This means that students apply to either (or both) graduate program(s), not a specific laboratory or research group. All first year Biochemistry and Translational Biosciences graduate students rotate in 3-4 research labs to find the best fit for their graduate studies. Admitted graduate students who would like to rotate in my lab, please email me with the below information. If I think we are potentially a good fit, we will schedule a meeting (virtual, phone, or in person) to discuss further. After your rotations are complete, you and the laboratory leaders you have rotated with will both have the opportunity to assess and identify the lab with the best potential for success.
A brief cover letter (1 page or less) describing your research interests, your short and long term career goals, and how pursuing your graduate degree in my lab will help you meet those goals. Include which rotation period(s) you would like to spend in our lab.
Your resume or CV summarizing your work and academic experiences.
An unofficial copy of your transcripts.
Future physician-scientists can also find out more about our MD-PhD program. Biochemistry is one of many degrees offered within this program.
Interested in Undergraduate Research?
There are a variety of mechanisms through which undergraduate students can participate in research. Undergraduate research is an excellent way to contribute to the scientific community while exploring possible career paths, and students can earn either for credit hours or financial compensation while participating in this work.
We will prioritize students who intend to participate in undergraduate research for at least one year. We strongly encourage undergraduate students to continue research during the summer! With a typically lighter course load, this more focused research time empowers students to become more independent on their research project, allowing greater freedom, both creatively and logistically, in future semesters of research. Undergraduate students at Mizzou who are interested in pursuing research in the lab, please send me an email with the below information.
A brief cover letter (1 page or less) describing your research interests, your short and long term career goals, and how conducting research in my lab will help you meet those goals. Include your approximate availability (hours per week) for lab work.
Your resume or CV summarizing your work and academic experiences.

There are multiple mechanisms available to our undergraduate researchers to secure additional funding and professional development opportunities, beyond those which are provided by the Durie lab directly. We are happy to help interested students apply for such programs to conduct research. Students interested in pursing graduate studies in STEM can apply for the MizzouForward Undergraduate Research Training Grant. Incoming or current freshmen at Mizzou can also consider applying to the Discovery Fellows program in the Honors College. Honors College students can also apply to the Cherng summer program. First or second year students and incoming transfer students at Mizzou from ethnic or racial groups that have been historically excluded in the sciences can also consider applying to the MARC/IMSD program.
Undergraduate students from other institutions are also welcome to contact me with the same information listed above to learn more about our summer undergraduate research program which may allow me to host you for the summer to conduct research in our lab.
Interested in Postdoctoral Research?
We do not have open positions for postdoctoral scholars at this time but are always happy to hear from interested researchers should a suitable position come open in the future.
