Cryo-Electron Microscopy

We isolate endogenously expressed complexes directly from pathogenic bacteria. Cryo-EM is the ideal approach for revealing detailed information about this large, dynamic, membrane embedded complexes. The structural models lead to new mechanistic hypotheses.

Kinetics & Thermodynamics

Detailed structures from endogenously expressed complexes are used to generate mechanistic hypotheses. We test these hypotheses in vitro. This highly controlled environment allows precise manipulation of variables to understand the impact of specific components on the system.

Cell Based Studies

Cell based studies are used to investigate the mechanism of protein translocation in its physiological context, with all of the complexity inherent in the lifecycles of pathogenic bacteria and their host cells.
